Get To Know The Weird Ones

You might find some amazing friends

Here am I, sitting in a small coffee shop. Chatting with a girl from my university and having one of the most interesting conversations I have had so far this year. I have so much in common with her and I don’t get why all my friends told me she is weird. Well, actually I know why…

Everyone who sees the world in a slightly different way from the masses is considered weird. Whether it is a bad or a good thing — depends on the situation.

While most mean it in a bad way, if you ask me — those considered weird are sometimes the most interesting people. Most of the “weird” people have amazing stories and awesome experiences to share.

People are being called weird for being too outgoing or too shy; for having unusual ideas; for not being afraid to take a chance and follow their dreams…

Most times, when people accuse others of being weird — deep down envy them for something.

Whether that thing is not being afraid to express an opinion, following their passions freely, or something else.

I don’t care if a 35-year old woman hasn't been in a long-term relationship and is considered weird for that. She can speak 7 languages and has traveled to more than 20 countries — that’s what I want to learn more about. The shy boy, always looking at his phone, is actually answering emails, and manages a successful online business. The woman who always refuses to go to a bar with her coworkers on a Friday night usually goes to a local comedy club — sometimes performing a set, sometimes only listening.

Those are just some fascinating people I have met, that most people thought are weird.

Prejudice is one of our worst enemies when it comes to meeting new people.

Society loves to put people in boxes, and whenever someone is even slightly unusual — they usually become outcasts and wallflowers. That’s until they meet others sharing their interests and views of the world.

We are all different and I am thankful for that. Imagine how boring the world would be if we all liked the same stuff and thought in the same way.

We have no idea what the people walking past us on the street have gone through. What their experiences have been and what challenges they have overcome. So there is no point in judging them for who trey are, without actually knowing them.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself, just because someone might think you are weird.

Yes, your friends and family might find you unusual at times, but there are more than 7 billion people on this Earth. You just have to find your group of people.

There’s a whole category of people who miss out by not allowing themselves to be weird enough. — Alain De Botton

If you ask me, it’s far more interesting and productive to communicate with someone “weird” than with someone, who is considered completely “normal”.

Next time you hear a coworker of an acquaintance being called weird — grab a coffee (or a beer) with that person. They may surprise you with some amazing stories and you might find a trustworthy friend.
